Congress Description
This 3-day meeting is dedicated to an in-depth discussion of the data
that underlie optimal adjuvant breast cancer therapy as well as the data
that fuel existing controversies. A significant emphasis on case discussion
and management of the early-stage and locally advanced breast cancer patient
will provide a practical approach to applying the existing clinical trial
results. The congress will address the multidisciplinary areas of early
breast cancer care, including pathology, breast imaging, breast cancer
genetics and risk reduction, surgery, radiation, and adjuvant systemic
therapy. The format will include lectures and case presentations, with
a detailed discussion of management options as well as a point-counterpoint
debate on controversial topics. Small-group breakout sessions with the
faculty will be conducted for more in-depth discussion of controversial
cases. Emerging Trends in Adjuvant Therapy of Breast Cancer will be held
at The Plaza Hotel, located in the heart of New York City.
Target Audience
This conference is designed to be of high clinical utility to medical
oncologists, surgeons, and radiation oncologists practicing in the community
or in academic institutions, who care for breast cancer patients. Participants
will have the opportunity to critically review existing clinical trials
data on adjuvant therapies as well as to evaluate the application of the
data for the daily management of women with breast cancer through case
discussions.
Topics:
- Dose dense chemotherapy
- Adjuvant anastrozole therapy
- Choice of hormonal therapy for HER2+ breast cancer
- Trastuzumab neoadjuvant therapy in high risk breast cancer
- Timing of sentinel lymph node biopsy and neoadjuvant chemotherapy
- Partial breast irradiation
- Post-mastectomy radiation fields
- Interpretation of the IHC-positive sentinel lymph node
- Ovarian ablation as adjuvant therapy
- Clinical utility of PET in breast cancer
- Integrating complementary cancer and adjuvant therapies
Objectives
At the conclusion of the conference, you will be able to:
- Discuss the existing clinical trials data that provide the underpinnings
for optimal adjuvant systemic breast cancer therapy
- Evaluate the promise and limitations of the data that are changing
adjuvant systemic therapy that remain controversial
- Apply the existing data to daily decision-making and management of
patients with early-stage and locally advanced breast cancer
- Describe and apply the principles of state-of-the-art surgical and
radiation therapy for breast cancer patients
